Understanding Traffic Counts and Their Impact
Traffic counts are critical, but profitability hinges on capture rate, access and co-tenancy. Always validate Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) data by direction, frontage access, competition, and local road authority trip generation methods.
Consider the speed of traffic flow. Sites along roads with speeds between 50-70 km/h tend to perform best, as drivers have enough time to notice your facility and make the decision to stop. Higher-speed arterials might show impressive traffic counts, but if vehicles are travelling at 100+ km/h, your capture rate will suffer significantly.
Mastering Ingress and Egress Design
The ease with which customers can enter and exit your car wash directly impacts your capture rate and throughput. Poor ingress and egress can render even the best location unprofitable. Your site needs multiple access points whenever possible, with clear sight lines that allow drivers to identify entrance points from at least 60 metres away.
Without adequate stacking space, vehicles waiting to enter can back up onto main roads, creating dangerous conditions and deterring potential customers.
